Set Up VLC BelowStep-by-Step: IPTV with VLC on Windows & Mac
⏱ ~2 minutesImportant: VLC does not have a TV programme guide (EPG). You will see live channels only, with no guide information. If you want a full IPTV experience with EPG, movies and series, use IPTV Smarters Pro instead.
Download VLC
Go to videolan.org and download VLC for your system (Windows or Mac). It is free and open-source.
Open Media > Open Network Stream
Launch VLC. From the top menu, click Media, then select "Open Network Stream" (Cmd+N on Mac).
Paste Your M3U Playlist URL
Paste the full M3U link from your confirmation email into the URL field. This is different from your Xtream Codes login - check your email for the M3U link specifically.
Click Play
VLC will connect and load the stream. The first channel in your playlist starts playing directly. There is no channel menu, so you will need your M3U link's channel list to navigate.
If Channel Names Look Garbled
Add &output=ts to the end of your M3U URL and try again. Contact support if this does not resolve it.
DESKTOP TIPS
Get the Best IPTV Experience on Desktop
Practical tips specific to Windows and Mac users
Use Wired Ethernet, Not Wi-Fi
A laptop connected via Ethernet (or a USB-C to Ethernet adapter) eliminates the most common cause of buffering on desktop. This matters even more for 4K, which needs 25 Mbps of stable bandwidth.
Cast to Your TV via HDMI
No Firestick? Connect your laptop to your TV with an HDMI cable, select it as your display in system settings, then run IPTV Smarters Pro or VLC in fullscreen on the TV screen.
Set EPG Time Zone to Europe/Dublin
In IPTV Smarters Pro settings, confirm the time zone is Europe/Dublin - otherwise programme times in your guide will be off by one or more hours.
Whitelist the App in Windows Defender
Some antivirus software flags IPTV apps as suspicious because they handle streaming URLs. If Smarters will not open, add it to your Defender exclusions: Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection > Exclusions.
TROUBLESHOOTING

IPTV on Windows & Mac - Frequently Asked Questions
Can I watch IPTV on a Windows PC or Mac?
Yes. Both work well using IPTV Smarters Pro for the full experience (channel guide, VOD library, catch-up TV) or VLC for simple live channel playback. Both apps are free to download.
Do I need Smarters Pro or is VLC enough?
VLC works for basic live TV but has no programme guide (EPG), no movies or series section, and no channel menu - you navigate by playlist order only. For the full IPTV experience with a proper TV guide and VOD library, use IPTV Smarters Pro.
Why is my IPTV app blocked by Windows Defender?
Some antivirus software flags IPTV player apps because they handle streaming URLs. This is a common false positive - add the app to your Defender or antivirus exclusions list to resolve it.
Can I watch IPTV on my TV from my laptop?
Yes - connect your laptop to your TV with an HDMI cable, select it as your display output in system settings, then run your IPTV app in fullscreen. This gives you a full TV experience without buying a Firestick.
Should I use TiviMate on Windows?
No. TiviMate is built for Android TV and Fire TV only. It is not available for Windows or Mac, even through emulators like Bluestacks - this often causes audio sync issues and is not worth the complexity. Use IPTV Smarters Pro or VLC instead.
